Functional wellness is turning everyday hydration into a new wellness ritual.

E
lectrolytes have transitioned from being a gym staple to an everyday wellness habit. Once used by athletes after intense workouts, electrolyte drinks are now being consumed to stay hydrated during busy workdays, nights out, or holidays.

This shift comes from Boots expanding its brand line-up to meet rising customer demand for electrolytes early this year.
New arrivals include Kind Patches, Loop, Nourished and Alyve. International beauty brands like Dr Reju-All, &Honey, Laka and Korres also make their mark in the UK beauty market.

Social media has made electrolyte powders, tablets and drinks more popular, while people are becoming more interested in hydration, energy and recovery. This growing interest is clear from the 755% rise in searches for electrolytes on Boots and other supplement and wellness websites.

Electrolytes Are Suddenly Everywhere

A big reason for their market demand is convenience. Electrolyte powders, tablets and ready-to-drink options make it easy to add electrolytes to your daily routine.
They are also being marketed for more than exercise, with people using them during work shifts, in hot weather, or when they feel tired and dehydrated. This has helped turn electrolytes from a sports product into an everyday wellness choice.

Boots reported a 755% year-on-year rise in searches for “electrolytes” on Boots.com. Social media is also helping push the trend, with electrolyte drinks and powders appearing across TikTok and other platforms.

Electrolytes are minerals such as sodium, potassium and chloride that help the body maintain fluid balance and support normal muscle and nerve function. While they have long been linked to exercise and sports drinks, their use is now moving into everyday wellness.

Boots’ 2026 Beauty and Wellness Trends Report describes consumers looking for simple products that can support their daily wellbeing, with electrolytes becoming part of this movement.

The NHS says that water is a healthy and inexpensive way to stay hydrated, while extra fluids may be needed during hot weather, long periods of physical activity or illness.

Boots launches Wellthy by Boots, a new electrolyte range designed to support hydration.
The range includes four targeted electrolyte powders, each combining six essential minerals with added ingredients to support specific wellness goals, including energy and focus, immune support, radiant skin, and rest and recovery. They are rich in ingredients such as magnesium, vitamin B12, vitamin D3 and collagen.

The Appeal of Electrolytes

Electrolytes fit easily into daily routines. Powders, gummies and tablets can be carried in a handbag or kept at a desk. Flavoured options are widely available and can make drinking water more enjoyable.

They are also being promoted for different occasions, from travel and hot weather to exercise and recovery, giving consumers more reasons to reach for them throughout the day.

The demand for electrolytes reflects a growing interest in functional wellness because they promise a specific benefit rather than simply being part of a healthy lifestyle. Brands now offer powders, sachets and tablets in different flavours, making them easy to add to a bottle of water at home, at work or while travelling.

Hydration is becoming part of the wider functional wellness market. Consumers are looking for products that fit easily into their routines and offer a specific purpose.
