What We Publish

CHERUB is an independent fashion, art and culture publication interested in stories with a clear point of view.

We publish across Fashion, Beauty, Film & TV, Music and Culture, from reviews and interviews to cultural criticism, reported features, essays and emerging trends.

We're interested in ideas that add to the conversation rather than simply repeating what has already been said. Before pitching, spend some time reading CHERUB to understand our tone, coverage and the kinds of stories we publish.

What Makes a Good CHERUB Pitch?

A strong pitch should make the idea immediately clear.

Start with a top line of one or two sentences explaining:

  • What is the story?
  • Why does it matter?
  • Why now?
  • Why does it belong in CHERUB?

Then briefly explain your angle and what makes your approach distinctive. If similar stories have already been published elsewhere, explain what your piece would contribute that is new or different.

For reported pieces or interviews, tell us who you intend to speak to and whether you already have access. For reviews, essays and cultural commentary, explain the argument or perspective you want to explore.

What to Include

Keep your pitch focused and include the following:

  1. Working titleA clear working headline for the piece.
  2. The ideaA concise explanation of the story and its central angle.
  3. Why now?Why the story is relevant, timely or worth publishing.
  4. Your approachHow you intend to tell the story, including potential interviews, research or sources where relevant.
  5. FormatFeature, interview, review, essay, commentary or another format.
  6. SectionFashion, Beauty, Film & TV, Music or Culture.
  7. About youA short introduction and links to previous work, if you have them. You do not need an enormous professional portfolio; we care about the quality of the idea and your perspective.

The Email

Send your pitch directly to the editorial inbox using this subject format:

PITCH: [YOUR WORKING TITLE]

Using "PITCH:" in capitals helps CHERUB identify genuine editorial submissions and distinguish them from spam, PR emails and unrelated enquiries. Keep the actual pitch concise and focused.

Before You Send

  • Read CHERUB before pitching.
  • Check that we haven't recently published the same story.
  • Make sure your idea has a clear angle.
  • Explain why the story matters now.
  • Include relevant writing examples where available.
  • Proofread your pitch before sending.
  • Pitch the idea rather than sending an unsolicited completed article unless the format specifically requires otherwise.

What Happens Next?

We aim to respond within two weeks. If you haven't heard back after that, feel free to follow up once.

We receive a lot of submissions, so we may not be able to commission every idea. That doesn't mean the idea isn't worth pursuing — we appreciate every thoughtful pitch and encourage you to keep developing your perspective.
